Senses $45 million superyacht
The redevelopment of Whangārei’s boatbuilding infrastructure at Port Nikau has enabled the Whangārei marine industry to score New Zealand’s most expensive and most impressive $60 million refit this year.
The $45 million superyacht Senses is 59 metres and weighs almost 1000 tonnes. The superyacht is currently sitting in a slipway at Ship Repair NZ’s Port Road site, as its seventh refit is completed in New Zealand and its first in Whangarei.
Senses was previously owned by Google co-founder Larry Page who bought the vessel in 2011 from Sir Douglas Myers, New Zealand multi-millionaire. It is understood that Larry Page sold Senses in 2020 to an unknown person.
Senses, which was built in 1999, can accommodate up to 12 guests and a crew of 14. The superyacht has a range of 11,112 kilometres, four high-speed tenders and a helicopter landing pad. In New Zealand, it has been spotted in Nelson in 2015 and then again in Auckland in 2016.
The superyacht has been in Whangarei since the 5th December 2020 and will stay in the slipway, undergoing mechanical, structural, interior and paintwork. Then at the end of March, it should be transported to the new Port Nikau $1.2 million pontoon for further work.
